CS619: Document 2: Work Plan & Methodologies

If you have already done/submitted your First Document, you must start working on the Second document right away. If not, take a look at this post for your Document One, the SRS  here.
Good news is that second document is the easiest one. It gets tougher only because you will try to copy & paste most material directly from Google which will result in you losing marks. Try to make a few changes in diagrams, text & everything you copy and paste from internet or books.
Introduction:
In this document you are fulfilling a formality, giving your work plan, which is already suggested by the University. The methodology prescribed by VU is a combo of Waterfall & Spiral model. It shall be explicitly mentioned in the template given to you in assignments section of CS619 course. Most students get this phase approved without any problem mainly because there is lesser chance for error or mistakes. Its also shortest & easiest document so get it completed quickly so that you have more time for Next phase.
Methodologies:
In this section, you explain a few existing methodologies & which one you are choosing (already mentioned by VU in template) & reason for choosing it.
For already existing methodologies, I recommend CS615 course “Software Project Management” from 3rd semester of MIT. For MIT students its easier. MCS doesn’t include this course. There is a chapter on models for software development. For further reading you can use internet resources. In my document I mentioned followings:
  • Waterfall Model
  • Rapid Prototyping
  • Spiral Model
  • Incremental Model
  • Agile development Method

I wrote it like, defining the methodology, its advantages, disadvantages alongwith a diagram from internet (& edited ofcourse). Repeat for each methodology.
Reason for choosing methodology repeats the advantages you mentioned for waterfall model & Spiral model.
Work Plan & Gantt Chart:
Work plan is the break down of your project-related work into sections (given in each template file) & mentioning the Start & End date for each. I have posted a section of mine for guidance:

Gantt Chart on other hand shows different activities you perform in your work plan, on a timeline. You can create both of these in MS Project. For further help on MS Project & creating WBS & Gantt Chart, you can take help from here.
So this is pretty much it, with the document 2. If I missed anything, since its been almost a year now, please do let me know so that I can add it here.
